Why do dialysis patients need extra nutrition?
The process of dialysis causes the loss of needed vitamins and minerals, as well as the portion of the proteins and sugars that your body needs to build tissue and provide you with energy.
Many dialysis patients have problems eating and digesting food. Some patients, for example, lose their appetites and cannot eat enough to keep their weight and strength up.
Dialysis patients may have problems absorbing some nutrients because of other gastrointestinal illnesses, which can also lead to poor nutrition.
How will I receive my treatments?
How will your unit’s personnel become trained to administer NutriRite ™ IDPN?
What is the average length of time a patient remains on NutriRite™ IDPN therapy?
The length of NutriRite™ IDPN therapy varies from patient to patient. It is dependent on individual nutritional goals, and the degree of malnutrition.
The physician and dialysis unit staff will determine when you have reached these goals. We suggest the patient be reevaluated every 3-6 months.
